The first step toward becoming a good breeder is to study and to try and obtain every sort of information on the breed and breeding. The improvement of the breed must be the primary goal of a true breeder. Finding an experienced breeder who will be willing to share his knowledge with you is the most helpful.

If you are aware that breeding takes money, time and patience and still want to commit yourself, you should obtain high quality animals for breeding. No reputable breeder will want to sell a top quality animal to a person who has an unstable interest in breeding and showing Italian Greyhounds.
The most difficult part of becoming a good breeder is to provide a suitable foundation for a future breeding program. Foundation bitches should be well bred and display an outstanding health. Each breeder sets up his own reputation. Being professional and responsible is what tends to build up a good reputation of a breeder. Keep in mind that breeders are always responsible for the Italian Greyhounds that they produce and their learning process never stops.
