Italian Greyhounds - Description

Italian Greyhounds are miniature dogs with a slightly curved back. The breed is similar to the Greyhound. However, Italian Greyhounds are more slender and elegant in all proportions. The Italian Greyhound's head is rather long and narrow. The fine muzzle is long. The dark eyes are of a medium size, expressing intelligence and alertness. The small ears are fine in texture. Erect or button ears are penalized. When the dog is alerted, the ears are carried folded at right angles to the head. When the dog is relaxed, they are thrown back and folded.

The dog's neck is elegantly arched. The shoulders are sloping. The chest of the Italian Greyhound is deep and narrow. The legs are straight and long. The long tail should be carried low. It is tapering to a curved end. The short coat is soft and glossy. All coat colors are acceptable, except for black, tan and brindle.

The Italian Greyhound is light and fast on its feet. They are wonderful companions for the elderly and can do well with children who treat them with respect and care. The breed is suitable for apartment living. Italian Greyhounds are gentle and affectionate dogs that need little training and require minimum grooming.

Life Span: Italian Greyhounds can live up to 12-15 years.
